In part 3 of vCD installation series, I would like to talk about the steps required to install VMware vcloud-director Bin file.
1- Transfer the vcloud-director.bin file to your CentOS machine. In my case I transferred it to /tmp.
2- Make the bin executable by running “chmod 775 vcloud-director.bin”
3- Create SSL certificates. vCloud Director needs 2 SSL certificates, one for https and the other is for Console Proxy. I have seen some posts recommend using “alternatives” command to install the “keytool” however, I was not able to use alternatives in CentOS. The recommended way as per VMware KB1026309 is to use the JRE keytool shipped with vCloud Director. As per the article, for Version 1.5 and higher, keytool is located at /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/jre/bin/
4- Install the bin file: ./vcloud-director.bin
5- Once you’re prompted for running the script now, Click No, The reason for doing this is that I need to generate the key files first so “cd” to “/opt/vmware/vcloud-director/jre/bin” then generate the keys using the below commands:
[root@vcd5 bin]# ./keytool -keystore certificates.ks -storetype JCEKS -storepass vmware1! -genkey -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 730 -alias http
[root@vcd5 bin]# ./keytool -keystore certificates.ks -storetype JCEKS -storepass vmware1! -genkey -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 730 -alias consoleproxy
6- Answer all questions required to generate the certificates. Example is shown below: 7- Rerun the vcloud-director installation by running the configure utility located at /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin/
8- Choose the Interface that will be used for https traffic and the other one that will be used for ConsoleProxy traffic
9- Choose the path to the certificates.ks file generated after running the keytool script (step 6).
10- Enter the password used when generating the certificates.
11- Skip the syslog configuration at the moment.
12- Configure the DB connection as shown below.
14- Wait for 2 minutes before checking the vCD web portal
15- Login to your vCD web portal using https://<IP address>/<FQDN>
16- The initial configuration page appears..
Congratulation, vCD installation is now completed. In the next post I will go through the steps required for initial configuration. Stay tuned…
